Equipped with a Bachelor of Design and over a decade’s worth of graf- ti knowledge, Petra Leary is quickly becoming New Zealand’s most refreshing young photographers on the scene. Her work captures a unique perspective, infused with symmetry, motion, architecture and patterns, from a bird’s eye view. Petra has travelled extensively throughout New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Cuba, Canada and the United States. Being from a country known as the ‘Long White Cloud’, she has documented her travels by capturing urban landscapes at heights and places not for the faint hearted. Through her exploratory use of drone photography, helicopters and climbing, she captures her images from places not many are willing to go. Digitally manipulating her imagery reveals her innate instinct to choose an outdoor spot but to hone in on that shot in-studio, a process that is unique and true to the practise of urban contemporary. Petra’s work has been exhibited in galleries as well as featured in various creative publications and web- sites around the world.
